Description

As a breeder of Munchkin and Napoleon kittens in Tennessee, I love sharing information about these unique and charming cats. The Munchkin short-leg cat originated from a spontaneous mutation in domestic cats, giving it the distinctive short-legged appearance. The Minuet, formerly known as the Napoleon, is a mix of Persian and Munchkin breeds and has its own signature look. While the Minuet inherits its short legs from the Persian lineage, most of its traits, including its luxurious coat and gentle nature, come from the Persian group (Exotic, Persian, Himalayan). The Minuet combines the Persian’s calm and affectionate temperament with the playful curiosity and energy of the Munchkin.

Originally called Napoleon, the name was never fully accepted by TICA and was officially changed to Minuet in 2015. In 2016, TICA promoted the Minuet to full championship status, and currently, only Minuet standards are eligible for shows.

Even when two short-leg cats are bred together, approximately 50% of the kittens may be long-legged. The gene for short legs is dominant, making the short-leg type the standard and the long-leg type the nonstandard. Standards are dwarf cats and remain smaller overall, while nonstandards grow to regular adult cat size. Both types are registered as Munchkins or Minuets.

These cats are generally healthy, with no major breed-specific health concerns, and they have an average lifespan similar to other domestic cats. Adult Munchkins and Minuets are medium-sized, weighing between 4 and 7 pounds, with females typically smaller than males. They can have short or long fur and come in any color or pattern, offering a wide variety for prospective owners.

If you’re looking for well-socialized, loving kittens, I raise all of my Munchkin and Minuet kittens in my home in Tennessee, ensuring they are healthy, playful, and ready to join a family.
