Picket Fence Munchkins FAQs

About Our Cattery

Where is Picket Fence Munchkins located?
We’re located on a small farm in Waverly, Tennessee, just west of Nashville. Our kittens are raised in a loving, country home environment with plenty of care and socialization.

Are your kittens raised in a cattery or your home?
All our kittens are raised inside our home alongside their moms, dads, and even our two friendly Golden Retrievers. After 6 weeks of age, they have free run of the house and are well-adjusted to household life.

How are your kittens socialized?
Our kittens grow up around family members, including our grandchildren, who help ensure they’re friendly, playful, and comfortable with people of all ages.

About the Breeds

What is a Munchkin cat?
The Munchkin cat is a naturally occurring breed known for its short legs, which result from a spontaneous genetic mutation. Despite their stature, Munchkins are agile, playful, and full of personality.

What is the difference between a Munchkin and a Minuet?
The Minuet (formerly known as the Napoleon) is a cross between the Persian group (Persian, Himalayan, and Exotic) and the Munchkin. Minuets inherit the Munchkin’s short legs and the Persian’s gentle, affectionate temperament and luxurious coat.

Are there health problems associated with short legs?
No. Responsible breeding ensures Munchkins and Minuets are healthy and active. The short-leg gene does not cause health issues, and their lifespan is similar to that of any domestic cat.

What does “standard” and “nonstandard” mean?
“Standard” refers to kittens with short legs (dwarf type), while “nonstandard” kittens have regular-length legs. Both are registered as Munchkins or Minuets and make equally wonderful pets.

Kitten Care & Adoption

At what age can kittens go to their new homes?
Our kittens are typically ready for their new homes at around 10–12 weeks of age, once they are eating solid food, using the litter box, and fully weaned from their mothers.

Are kittens litter box trained?
Yes! By 6 weeks of age, our kittens are fully litter trained and accustomed to household routines.

What should I expect when I bring a kitten home?
Your kitten will be well-socialized, playful, and used to household sounds, other cats, and dogs. We recommend providing a quiet, safe space at first so they can adjust comfortably.

Do you offer a health guarantee?
Yes, every kitten comes with a written health guarantee. We take pride in breeding healthy, happy kittens with excellent temperaments.

What colors or coat types are available?
Our kittens come in a wide range of colors and patterns, both long and short-haired. Each kitten is unique!
